147 Years Service

The picture shows Stuart, Philip and Ernie

Swan Foundry marked the retirement of Stuart Gibbs with a party of The Long Service Club.  Stuart joined Swan straight from school in August 1963, and after moving round various departments during his training, soon became a valued member of the moulding team. Before his retirement Stuart was the foundry’s, senior team leader.

If he had not taken early retirement, Stuart would have joined a very elite band of three who have served Swan Foundry for 50 years or more. The late founder Aubrey Phillips worked from 1947 until his death 1999, Ernie Watts 1949 till 2000 and Philip Marshall 1958 until 2008. There can be few companies that have enjoyed such loyal service, in an era when we are told jobs for life are a thing of the past, Swan must be the exception that proves the rule. The company have given gold watches for 25 years service to over twenty five employees, seven who are still with the company, and two more to be presented next year.
